A&P Requirements for Eligibility

(FAR) 65.71 and (FAR) 65.77

You will need to demonstrate that you have the requisite technical knowledge and experience and are eligible for written testing and oral examination.

English Language Proficiency Required

The FAA requires that all applicants for Airman and or Mechanic Certifications have the ability to read, write and speak the English language. Airmen School offers additional English training specifically for aviators looking to get the A&P certificate. Check the information tab on this site.

Mechanical Experience Required

There are three ways to achieve the mechanical experience required to take the FAA-required tests:

1. Maintenance Technician School

When the candidate enrolls on a part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School, complete the program and log the required practical experience time to qualify for the tests for licensing over a one- or two-year time frame.

2. (OJT) On-The-Job Experience

Logging 18 months of supervised work to qualify to take the Airframe or Powerplant licensing tests, or 30 months to take the combined A&P test. The work time must be documented and signed off by the supervising mechanic or a notarized statement from your employer.

3. Military Work Experience

Aviation military service time, can qualify a person to take the FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant mechanic tests. The FAA will recognize and credit your practical experience only after a review of your paperwork and an interview with an FAA Airworthiness Inspector.

FAA Airframe & Power Plant Preparation Test Course

  • Saturday and Sunday 08:00 AM to 16:00 PM

A&P training course is intended to prepare the student to pass the FAA A&P tests and to obtain the FAA A&P Ratings (Airframe and power plant). At the end of the course, the student will be able to pass the following tests:

  • General written
  • Airframe written
  • Power plant written
  • A&P Oral and Practical

This training is a complete A&P topics refresher course. The instructor will teach and refresh in the classroom the topics and knowledge required to approve the A&P tests.

Every day of training, the student will receive schedule topics review (previously known by the student using the Airmen School guide), and then he/she can start studying with the Test guide to check the knowledge acquired.

Moreover, the student will receive a password to log-in into the test prep platform to be able to study anywhere outside the school`s schedule.

A&P (Airframe and Power plant) Preparation test Course Stages

Stage 01Written Exams Preparation

This is the initial phase of the training, and is designed to help candidates to refresh the required knowledge to ace the required exams in the most efficient manner possible. During this phase, the student will receive specialized lecture of an instructor, to learn also, the techniques to approve the written tests, required by the FAA, checking this knowledge by the use of our on-site computerized platform, and practice exams.

Stage 02: Oral & Practical Preparation

During the two weekends of the course, the instructors will prepare the students to ace the oral and practical tests, reviewing the whole set of questions and job projects, in order to be ready to take the mandatory tests required by the FAA.

Stage 3: Mock Test

At the end of stages 01 and 02, the candidate will be tested by Airmen School simulating the three written tests (General, Airframe and Power Plant) as well as the oral and practical, to check if the student is ready to face the real process.

$700 USD

A&P training course fee includes:

  • 15 days of formal training 70 total hours reviewing the entire A&P topics and performing the practical projects required to pass the tests in according with the schedule described previously.
  • FAA FSDO appointment arrangement assistance, application documents review (by Airmen School).
  • FAA Oral & practical exam appointment arrangement with the DME (Designated Maintenance Evaluator) in the USA (oral and practical tests costs can vary from U$800 up to U$1100).
  • 2024 ASA Test prep platform unlimited use, and password to log-in anywhere, anytime outside the school facilities.
  • ASA 2024 Oral & practical Examā€™s Study Guide book
  • Five (5) FAA E-Textbooks. (General, Airframe and powerplant handouts, Airmen school`s study guide and AC-43-13-1B.
  • The successful completion of this course will result in the readiness to take the written, oral and practical tests required to get the FAA. Airframe and Powerplant License A&P license.
